Philosophy of Education
Richard Bach, an American writer once said, "Learning is finding out what we already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, and teachers." Each student has their own role in the way that they learn and thrive in school, some are learners, doers and others are teachers. As an educator I aspire to help children reach their full potential and flourish, not only intellectually, but also emotionally, socially, and morally.
I believe that the key purpose of school is to give all children an equal opportunity to be successful in all aspects of their life. To give equal opportunity to all of my students, I will provide them with the skills and knowledge in order to be ready for their next step in life. Whether their next step being entering into another grade level, school or being college and career ready. Education is vital to how our society functions, without it our society would be lost. The purpose of school is for children to receive an education that will provide them with a variety of skills and knowledge to help them become a contributor to society one day.
I believe in order for children to learn, you need to find significant connections with each student. Learning is not the ability to read from a textbook, and recite the information. It is in fact being able to understand what is being taught, and having the ability to apply the information to the students every day life, and the world. Learning requires taking risks and if children do not feel comfortable and connected to their teacher, they are not willing to take risks. If a student believes that they are personally connected to their teacher, and their teacher truly cares about them and their future, they will take risks.
As an educator it is my job to have children be successful in school and I plan on doing anything I have to do to accomplish this. I want my classroom to be open, fun and inviting, so the children feel welcomed and safe while in their learning environment. Children are our future and I plan on making our future bright and impassioned about learning.
